Basement converted into a shelter
We turned the old basement of an apartment building into a shelter where residents can wait out air-raid alerts.
1. Entrance
Barred vestibule with a canopy over the descent, reinforced door, padlock lugs and chain — keeps strangers out and opens fast during an alert.
2. Construction works
Cement-lime wall plastering, aerated-block partitions and openings, basement zoning around utilities.
3. Finished shelter
Safe stairs with a steel handrail, painted floor, wall-mounted folding benches and a lockable pit grate.
